Who is TilousTIC?

Lise Chovino, alias TilousTIC, has been involved for nearly a decade in the development of training courses, research projects, and publications, and has spoken on a number of occasions on topics related to digital justice, such as technology-facilitated violence, security and privacy, digital ethics and justice, techno-pedagogy, and the technological empowerment of women.

Lise also draws on her expertise in various collaborations with community, academic, and technology partners, as well as resources that help women facing domestic violence.

Why "TilousTIC"?

The name “TilousTIC” is first and foremost a reference to the nickname my father gave me. In Guadeloupean Creole, he would say, “ou sé on ti loustik!” (translation: “you’re a little mischievous one!”). He was referring to the fact that I always look for creative and unconventional solutions, that I also know how to be present where I am not expected, and that I like to bring positive energy, a touch of humor when appropriate, and a determination to see things through to the end.

And this aspect of my personality has been my compass since I started working on digital justice issues. This is why the acronym TIC in French (ICT, for information and communication technologies), replaces the k in my nickname.

The world of technology is constantly and rapidly evolving. Understanding the threat models and ethical challenges that come with this evolution requires a significant amount of adaptability. We must also support individuals while maintaining a structural view of digital issues. Indeed, I am convinced that we must adopt a systemic approach that does not blame individuals if we want to achieve lasting change in the face of digital giants and practices that impact our privacy and agency online (surveillance capitalism, anti-consent practices, etc.).

And how we do it is just as important to me as the goal itself. I follow a comprehensive approach that focuses on people and social justice and takes into account the complexity of lived experiences, even when addressing technology-related issues.
